Specialist plastics packaging technology business Petainer will produce recyclable PET vodka bottles for Galatea, one of the largest suppliers to Systembolaget, the Swedish state monopoly alcohol retailer.

Petainer’s plant at Lidköping in Sweden will manufacture 70 centilitre bottles for ‘organically produced’ Sailor brand vodka that will be supplied to all 410 Systembolaget shops. Petainer will also fit branded sleeves to the clear plastic bottles.

Technologists at Petainer have worked closely with designers working for Galatea. Together they have produced a container which is environmentally friendly, has high levels of clarity and great shelf appeal, whilst at the same time is easy to manufacture in high volumes

Petainer is focussed on sustainable technologies. It aims to support brand owners in their drive to lower their carbon footprint by offering consumers an ecological packaging alternative while also supporting brands with packaging that boosts sales.

Peter Edin, product manager at Galatea, said: “It is important that the bottles should reflect the quality of the Sailor brand and Petainer is able to deliver this quality reliably and consistently.”

PET offers benefits over glass in terms of weight and materials use and can have a significantly lower ‘carbon footprint’ than equivalent glass packaging, generating up to 77 per cent less greenhouse gases and using up to 58 per cent less energy.
