Stephen Watts appointed as interim president, SAP India

SAP Asia Pacific Japan has appointed Stephen Watts, chief operating officer, SAP Asia Pacific Japan, as interim president, SAP India. This appointment follows the tragic loss of Ranjan Das, president, SAP India.

Watts has unparalleled depth and expertise within the global software industry and has worked closely with Das and his Leadership Team since 2007.

Watts has already joined the team on the ground in India, spending this week in SAP`s Delhi offices.
Gwyn Sundhagul joins Reliance Retail as chief executive of value retail format

Reliance Retail has hired 47 year old Gwyn Sundhagul, chief marketing officer and director at Tesco Lotus, Thailand, as chief executive of its value retail format. Four of Sundhagul’s colleagues are set to follow him.

Of the four, Sansahee Kubena, former head of human resources at Tesco Lotus, is the first to come on board. The others are expected to join shortly. Tesco in Thailand is said to have faced a similar situation when they entered the market, with thousands of competing kirana stores that offered personalised service. Sundhagul’s appointment will be accompanied by a change in the management structure. Raghu Pillai, who was heading the store roll out will now focus on business development and new alliances such as Marks & Spencer. Sundhagul will also join Reliance Retail’s board of directors.

Other directors on the board include RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Dipak Jain, former dean of Kellog school of Management. Value formats contribute 70 per cent to the total sales of Reliance Retail. The CEO of the value formats, K Radhakrishnan, had recently put in his papers to start his own consulting practice.
Former DIPP secretary Ajay Dua appointed as independent director

FMCG major Dabur recently announced the appointment of Ajay Dua, a former secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) as an independent director on its board.

The company said in a statement that with this appointment the number of independent directors in its board has risen to six. Dua was given senior assignments in the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India, including as managing director of industrial promotion corporations and joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Power.

He was also the secretary in the DIPP between July 2005 and July 2007. He is currently a senior business advisor/board member of several multinational corporations, the company said.
Sandeep Ranade appointed as executive director of Nielsen Company

In a recent announcement, global information and media company Nielsen Company appointed Sandeep Ranade as Director, Client Solutions, Consumer Research. He will be reporting to Prasun Basu, Executive Director, Consumer Research and Vice President, BASES, The Nielsen Company.

Ranade will be based out of Mumbai and will focus on partnering with Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) clients.

Ranade brings with him 14 years of solid experience in Market Research and Media Planning. Prior to joining Nielsen, he was associated with Heinz India Pvt. Ltd as Senior Manager, Market Research & Media Planning. Over the last decade, Ranade has been associated in various capacities with Subhiksha Trading Services, TNS India, and IMRB International, among others.

Ranade is an alumni of Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune where he did his PGDM specializing in Marketing & Finance, and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Scott Price appointed as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Asia

Global major retailer Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in a recent announcement told that Scott Price has been named executive vice president, president and CEO, Walmart Asia. In this role, he will report directly to Doug McMillon, president and CEO, Walmart International and have responsibility for the company’s current operations in Asia, including China, India and Japan as well as business development in the Asia region. Based in Walmart’s regional office in Hong Kong, Price will assume his role October 15, 2009.

Price most recently served as CEO of DHL Express Europe. Prior to that, he was Chief Executive Officer, DHL Express Asia Pacific. He also was the president of DHL Express Japan, DHL`s largest market in the Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining DHL, Price spent a decade with the Coca-Cola Co. During that period, he assumed various roles which included country leader in Japan, and as Director and Country Manager in China, which included Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia.

A U.S. native, Price earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from the University of North Carolina. He also holds an MBA and a Master of Arts in Asian studies from the University of Virginia.
