JOHN LEWIS Waitrose launches new easy cook range

John Lewis-owned Waitrose has launched a new top-end range, ‘Menu From’ offering a selection of up to 68 dishes, all of which require little or no preparation to cook. The dishes have been created by Waitrose Executive Chef Neil Nugent in collaboration with other chefs including Pierre Koffmann, Anthony Demetre and Bryn Williams. “We are always looking at ways to push the boundaries with food so we challenged the team to come up with dishes that would not look out of place in a restaurant,” said Managing Director, Mark Price. The range went into stores at the beginning of February.

It was launched after research conducted by the retailer found that 43% of shoppers admitted impressing guests at dinner parties was more important than cooking a meal from scratch – even if it means buying ready meals. The poll of 2,000 people found a third would buy pre-prepared canapés and 15% would pass off their mum’s home-cooking as their own. Dishes on offer include both starters and main courses such as navarin of lamb for GBP8.99 (USD 14.59) and beetroot and goats’ cheese tart for GBP3.99 (USD6.48).
